This study presented the engage-study-activate (ESA) method for teaching and explained how this is the most popular and widely used teaching method today. Variations to the method were presented as well. Essentially the teacher must find a way to initially capture the students interest without teaching any material yet. This can be done in a variety of ways, such as presenting a video, song, or introducing a fun or interesting topic for the class to think and talk about. Next, in the study phase, students actually drill and learn new concepts and ideas. Finally the teacher finds ways for the students to practice, and this unit encourages letting the students do the talking and allowing them time to try and solve their own issues. The teacher provides specific feedback at the end. The most important part for me was to try and find ways to reduce anxiety and stress in students in order to maximize learning potential.
