The relationship between a teacher and student is very important. Teachers can take on many different roles in the classroom, some roles will mean that the teacher takes on a more prominent role while at times teachers can take withdrawn role. There is no \"best role\" and the role the teacher employs is situational, both the type of student and the objective of the lesson will determine the most suitable role. It is therefore important that a good teacher is comfortable in all types of roles.
It is also important for us to understand that different types of students whether categorised by their age, culture or language level at each level presents different challenges, thus this requires the teacher to employ different approaches to teaching. This being said there are general characteristics which make good students and teachers and we can generally find a direct correlation between the two.
