In Unit 16, I learned about Conditionals and Reported Speech. There are five types of conditionals, Zero, First, Second, Third and Mixed. A conditional sentence has two clauses: the condition and the consequence or result. The condition has to be met in order for the action or result to be realized. Learning the forms and usages for each was helpful. Reported, or indirect speech, can be reported in the present tense, in which case the verb tenses stay in the present. But if, for example, a conversation between two people is being \"reported\" the next day, the verb tenses changes to past verb tenses, and the time expressions change from \"today,\" for example, to \"that day.\" When writing reported speech, quotation marks aren't used unless it's important that the exact words are recorded. The teaching ideas for both conditionals and reported speech will be helpful when planning lessons.
