It was interesting to read about how native speakers scan and skim sources and can predict or deduce content from context; for example, a native English speaker would know the headline \"Cowboys Destroy Bears\" is referring to sports, but a native speaker would most likely not realize this at first.The final grammar unit covers several major grammatical topics: modal verbs, phrasal verbs, relative clauses, and passive voice. Teaching modal verbs requires a discussion of formal and informal English language. This would be an excellent opportunity to role play different scenarios in an ESL classroom. Phrasal verbs, relative clauses, and passive voice are complex subjects covered in higher level English courses. It is necessary for ESL teachers to feel comfortable teaching these subjects.
