This unit was very helpful in breaking down the parts of speech. Native speakers of English are often not explicitly taught the parts of speech, but it is essential to be aware of parts of speech so that students learning English can grasp sentence formation and word order. Personally, I especially benefited from the sections that discussed common mistakes that students make (such as the spelling and position of adverbs) or particularly difficult concepts for students (such as prepositions). As a teacher, I will make sure to reinforce these concepts that tend to be more difficult.When teaching a new language, all components of the language should be introduced: vocabulary, grammar structures, and language structures. Students should be provided with ample opportunities to practice all aspect of the new language in class. Students should practice using new vocabulary in isolation and in context. Students should also be given ample time in class to do language exercises and study texts that feature the highlighted vocabulary and language structures. Students should practice these new components of the language during presentations and small-group activities.
