This Unit discusses how teachers can integrate receptive skills (i.e. listening and reading skills) into lesson plans. In order to command a language, students need to master both listening and reading skills. How a teacher decides to enhance these skills depends on his/her teaching style and the class's level. However, in general, one should always pay attention to keep the students engaged and interested by selecting appropriate materials, addressing a variety of topics, and building confidence.After having learned the present tense verb forms, it's reassuring to realize the past verbs really follow the same construction. This chapter highlights the typical difficulties students have in learning the verb tenses, and I can see how it is necessary for the teacher to be able to articulate and provide solid examples of usage for all these verb tenses. I imagine it must also be quite a job to learn the irregular past simple and past participle verbs, and that this must require memorization.
