In Unit four, I was able to identify and understand how the four present tenses are used in the English language. I was surprised by how many common verbs are irregular when used in their past participle form. The task sheet exercises really helped me gathered a better understanding of the tenses’ proper usages. The biggest challenge for me in this unit was figuring out how I could explain these tense rules to a non-English speaker. It is simple to cover the tenses and acknowledge them when you’re used to them, but taking it all apart and explaining how the rules construct them is entirely different. It is quite fascinating, I feel like I am learning English grammar for the first time myself. As a teacher, you need to know your subject matter from the inside out to understand what mistakes and errors your students could make along the way.
