This unit discussed the parts of speech. It used simple and clear explanation. I appreciated that it went into enough detail without making the material overwhelming. It was quite helpful to see the basic rules for the English language. One knows how to use words in their native language but in order to effectively teach that language they must know why. I especially appreciated seeing the difference between prepositions and conjunctions as they were presented together so it was easy to compare them. For my volunteer teaching, I explore vocabulary with students by building their knowledge of synonyms from basic words (i.e. big=large... little=small...). This unit helps keep the teaching concept for new vocabulary balanced and organized with a certain etiquette, reinforcing the use of the ESA model. It's deeply important to make sure students pick up the right understanding of foreign words, but the teacher should just as well mind to pace new vocabulary teaching. There is simply so much to learn.
