Unit 5 give an overview of managing classrooms. The unit outlines good practice and considerations when teaching English as a second language. The unit first advises how to conduct yourself during lessons before detailing different ways to group students and arrange the classroom. The unit then discusses considerations when teaching such as writing on the board, giving instruction, teacher talk time and establishing rapport.
There were many aspects in this unit that were already familiar to me as an experienced teacher however, as I have previously taught in a different field, the points pertaining to teaching English as a second language were very helpful. For example, using simple language for instruction at a lower level of the students. As my previous experience was teaching native English speakers, I had not considered this point.
