This unit emphasizes the importance of planning the entire lesson prior to teaching so that things go smoothly, the teacher has a guide to refer to as the lesson progresses, the lesson is presented in a logical order so the students remain engaged and to maximize learning. The lesson plan also serves as a record of the lesson taught that day.
The second point of this unit is that a lesson plan is just a guide. During the lesson the teacher should continually adjust to meet the needs of that particular class at that particular time.
After each lesson there is an opportunity to evaluate how the lesson went and make notes for improving the lesson the next time it is taught. This encourages self reflection, reflection on teaching effectiveness and encourages the teacher to always be learning and improving his or her teaching methods.
