This unit was one of the more difficult ones for me. I feel like a novice when it comes to an in-depth knowledge of the past tense and all of its forms: Past simple, Past Continuous, Past Perfect, and Past Perfect Continuous. I took careful notes and I have been studying them closely to really master the usages for each form. I find the formulaic breakdown of how each tense takes form extremely helpful. For example, Past Simple can be achieved by just adding 'ed' to the base form of the verb or knowing the irregular past simple form. Past Continuous involves the subject + was/were + verb + ing, while Past Perfect is the subject + had + past participle. Past Perfect Continuous is the subject + had + been + verb + ing. This breakdown helps me immensely in identifying each form and then being able to relate the usages to the proper form.
