This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 3 gave me great insight into the complexities of teaching methods to English learners. Also, I was reminded of the responsibility a teacher had to construct engaging, informative and effective lesson plans. By not being flexible and creative, I realized I could lose out on a vast array of learning opportunities for my students. The ESA method (Engage, Study, Activate) along with its variations provided a solid foundation to craft effective and fun lesson plans for my future students. In this unit, we were introduced to the advantages and disadvantages of teaching adults, teaching groups versus individuals, and methodology that are used when learning new languages. Each methodology has their own advantages and disadvantages and teachers need to understand these. Teaching adults in my opinion will bring certain experiences that when being compared with young learners have more variation. But that doesn't mean that teaching adults are better than teaching young learners.
