Speaking is a large part of learning a foreign language and quite often teachers focus on this productive skill as it provides greater evidence of the students' command of the language. However, as this unit points out, writing is equally as important and though often neglected requires a \"greater degree of accuracy\". As students will be required to both speak and write English, if possible equal emphasis must be placed on both productive skills in order to make students more effective English speakers.This unit is about pronunciation and phonology. In the classroom, time should be spent on pronunciation,intonation and stress as to make students aware of the importance. Intonation is how volume and pitch varies in a sentence. The word that is normally stressed,bears the most emphasis in a sentence. Pronouns,articles and prepositions are normally unstressed while auxillary verbs are rearly stressed. The lesson also deals with phonemic alphabet which really shows how closely spelling match pronunciation.
