In this unit i have learned that there are four basic skills when learning a new language. The receptive skills - reading and listening, and the productive skills - writing and speaking. We need to be exposed to all of these four skills on an equal level to be able to manage a language. This unit was focused on the reading and listening skills, and how to most effectively develop these skills. It is important to select the right type of texts and materials for the students. It needs to be a balance of known and unknown words in the text we use, so that the students feel comfortable with accessing unknown language, but it should not be too hard, either.
