Teaching new language as presented in this unit stresses the need to adjust the lesson plan to accommodate the needs of the student. The lesson examples illustrate the major distinction between lessons on grammar and vocabulary as apposed to lessons that teach word functions. The primary conclusion drawn is that vocabulary and grammar will most likely be taught in the ESA straight arrow approach while functional English lessons will probably use the boomerang or patchwork ESA process. I felt it was important the the unit was introduced with the reminder that the teacher always has the flexibility to manage between the two to create the best learning environment for the students.
