This unit explains conditionals and reported speech. Conditional sentences contain the word \"if\" in the first clause and the consequence in the second clause. There are five types of conditional sentences. They are the zero conditional (if/when + present tense, present tense), first conditional (if + present simple, will), second conditional (if + past simple, would/could/might + base form), third conditional (if + past perfect, would/could/might + have + past participle) and mixed conditional (if + past perfect, would + base form. Reported speech is also called indirect speech which is not the same as directly speaking to someone or direct speech. When using reported speech, the speaker needs to change the tense of the verb from direct speech.
