My last reflection covered production skills rather than receptive skills, in retrospect, so in some ways I've already answered this. But to expand on this point, I have a general rule for a classroom: if I've spoken more than my students, the class has been a failure. Of course, that is too broad and general to be completely accurate 100% of the time. It is a general rule. Certain situations call for an increase in teacher talk time, particularly in advanced high school English. However, the point is that students need to speak/write to truly gain mastery of the language. As mentioned before, the generation theory/hypothesis basically states that students are more likely to remember if they create something. A good example is that students learn more from spending an hour creating their own mock tests than they do reviewing a study guide.
