Textbooks do provide a curriculum of sorts; however this has the teacher relying on a publisher to put together a curriculum for their class. It can lock some people into just the book. More experienced teachers will supplement the book, or use the book as a supplement to their curriculum. Most teachers create their own material that will target the students in their class specifically. By designing their own materials, teachers can target specific learning goals. However, writing a curriculum from scratch can be daunting.
