An effective lesson depends largely on the attitude of the teacher who comes to class with a well thought out and interesting lesson plan. Good teachers should greet students by name at the start of class, and with a smile. They should encourage all students to be active participants in the class discussions. If a student says something incorrectly, the teacher should firstly allow students the opportunity to self correct. Students will fail to interact in the lesson if they are confused. To ensure students learn, teachers must give clear instructions and model the material that is expected of students. Drilling is appropriate when there is an obvious grammatical or pronunciation error.
