Pronunciation And Phonology/consonants And Vowels - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL-TESOL Courses

The next thing we should look at is how our consonants are arranged for the top two rows we have P and F at the left side of our chart and G and J at the right side of our chart. They're arranged this way because if we analyze the way we speak we're using the front of our mouth to use these sounds as in ?p? and ?f? and I'm using my lips and my teeth to produce those sounds and as we move to the right on the chart slowly but surely we're making those sounds it towards the back of our mouth. We can use the examples of ?g?. The sound ?g? is produced further back in our mouth than ?p?. The next thing we'll notice about our chart is that some of our symbols are shaded. Notice that none of the symbols in the vowel sections are shaded but only a few are in the consonant section. The...  [Read more]

Although it can be very beneficial for students to learn as much as possible about the correct pronounciation and articulation of words / phrases, many teachers do not see the need in covering this important topic at all. That can have different reasons, but mostly teachers skip pronunciation lessons because they do not feel comfortable enough with it themselves. This problem does not only affect non-native...  [Read more]

What I got from this unit is that we can not expect that our students get 100% right the pronunciations of new vocabulary. Therefore, we most be realistic when choosing which methods to use to teach the pronunciations of words. While many ways can be used to teach pronunciation; I found 4 to be most helpful. I choose these four out of the rest because I also had to go through the same techniques when I learned a new language. The four methods I found...  [Read more]

The hardest lesson so far, the only thing i knew here was the transcription system regarded as \"phonemic alphabet\" in the unit. Teaching all this things takes a lot of effort, but building a nice accent-less pronunciation is very essential. And it's a really hard work not only for the students but for the teacher too. This is by far the most complicated unit so far. The intonation within sentences and the stress within words can completely change the meaning being spoken and can lead to misunderstandings or frustration. This Unit went over different forms of pronunciation. The English language is often spoken with a rise/fall pattern of speech in an authority matter, but then changes to a fall/rise manner when waiting for someone to respond. By changing the focus of a sentence on a single word, you can change the sentence's meaning. One of the larger problems of English is teaching certain sounds that make up English words. A technique that helps teach this is the articulation spots of the...  [Read more]

The information presented is not very relevant to daily teaching, but nonetheless useful for a teacher to have accessible. Students in non-English speaking countries have often been taught international phonetic script and will use it as a guide to learn vocabulary.
