Pronunciation And Phonology/phonemic Spellings Part 2 - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL-TESOL Courses

As mentioned before our four words here all are similar in using the 'b' and 't' sounds at the end. So we know that those phonemes will be used in spelling each one of those words phonetically. Now what we're left to do is assign a phoneme for our vowel sounds. So if we analyze the word, it's 'e' as in bet. We look at our chart, we see the phoneme which corresponds to that sound and that happens to be the standard 'e' that we all recognize. Here, bet phonetically looks very similar to bet in the Roman script. Now let's take a look at 'i' bit. Now we look at our chart and we see that this symbol represents the 'i' sound and that resembles a capital I not a lowercase I but a capital I and so we've arrived at bit. Now with 'but' we have to find the sound and that corresponds to this...  [Read more]

May Vs Might English Grammar Teaching Tips Esl - ✔️ ✔️ ✔️ ITTT TEFL-TESOL Courses

Even though many people use "may" and "might" interchangeably, they actually have slightly different meanings. The word "may", for example refers to a possibility, while "might" conveys slightly more uncertainty. In the example "There are dark clouds in the sky. It may rain later", we use "may" because the dark clouds suggest the possibility of rain. The sentence "I'm sick but I might come to the party" uses "might" because it is not certain the person will go to the party. This means, you should use 'may' when there is some kind of a sign that predicts or indicates future happenings. You should use 'might' when expressing something a little more unlikely or uncertain. Below you can read feedback from an ITTT graduate regarding one section of their online TEFL certification...  [Read more]

It could be difficult to recognize intonations of voices and to learn which syllable of the word should be given stress. It is fascinating that a simple stress in a certain word in the same sentence would change the meaning of the sentence as a whole. Phrasal verbs can be difficult for students to understand (ex: ?I look up to Beyonce?) and can be dropped in normal speech so that the students gradually pick up on it, and use it in their conversations as well. Also, if teaching a certain subject such as driving, the teacher could add in additional phrasal verbs, so that the students become more familiar with them. Modal verbs (can, might, should, must, etc.)...  [Read more]

Without having a gauge of what is being learned and retained, you have no idea if your teaching is doing any good. Learning a new language is much like building a house. If you can?t maintain the initial framework, to build on, then new information can?t be placed on it. Testing is ideal in making sure the initial framework is solid. Not only is this beneficial for the teachers, but also for the students as well. This may be a motivator is...  [Read more]

While both are equally important, it is easier for learners to experience difficulty with listening because the language isn’t ‘captured’ and they have to deduce meaning very quickly after only listening to it once. All these notions present difficulty to students, which can only be eradicated through constant practice. The major problem with phrasal verbs lies in the abundance of meanings they may have. As far as passive voice is concerned, I believe that it doesn?t present an arduous task as long as students know how to...  [Read more]
