PLA (Prior Learning Assessment)

Prior Learning Assessment (PLA) is a process that evaluates and recognizes the knowledge and skills individuals have acquired outside formal education. This can include work experience, self-study, military training, and other informal learning. In language education, PLA can help place learners in appropriate courses, grant credits, or tailor instruction to their existing proficiency. PLA methods include portfolio assessments, standardized tests, interviews, and performance assessments. Recognizing prior learning supports lifelong learning and maximizes educational opportunities.
