Universal grammar


The UG hypothesis suggests that all languages have some underlying similarities which are considered fundamental to language itself (see Chomsky). Noam Chomsky suggested that humans are born with an innate ability to learn languages. His theory posited that exposure to language alone could not account for the fact that almost everyone learns their Native language without formal instruction.
