TESOL Videos - Teach English in Thailand!
This is what one of our TEFL graduates feels he has gained from the course, or a part of it, and how he plans to put into action what he has learned.
This unit discusses the course books and the lesson materials that the teacher requires to give a balanced and productive lesson. Often the teacher has to create her own materials to either supplement the course book or to replace sections that are not suitable for the class. Material that is created by the teacher tends to be more interesting than the course book material. This is because the course book can become predictable, outdated and may not suit the specific needs of the students. Course books are best used when they are only partially used in a lesson. The teacher needs to plan the lessons to be motivating and fun, but she also needs to analyse what sections of the work the students need extra work on. A course book needs to be analysed to make sure that the book is readily available and is not too expensive. It must develop the student's skills by having a certain amount of challenging sections. A course book should contain a teacher's guide and a syllabus for the students to work according to.
