This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The most important thing I have learned from this course has been the ESA methodology. Before taking this course I had no idea how to even approach teaching ESL or any other class. But the ESA methodology and its various models (straight arrow, boomerang, etc.) have provided me with a blueprint that I see myself using every day that I teach.
The lesson plans go hand in hand with the ESA methodology, and I see myself writing up lesson plans each day. Over time, I will probably be more comfortable improvising a little and revising the plans mid-class to best suit the students interests, progress, etc., but for the most part the ESA methodology will be the backbone of my lessons.
