This unit is about troubleshooting. It talks about the common problem situations that teachers will most likely to encounter sometime in their teaching career. It also presents techniques and suggestions on how to deal with them. One common problem situation for the teacher is the first day of class. Some teachers don't know how to start the course. So they tend to give worksheets or tests or start directly to the course book. However, this unit suggests about giving activities that would build rapport between the students and the teacher, getting to know the students, their aspirations and also their English levels. Another problem is about warmers. Some teachers tend to forget to motivate the students to learn English through the use of warmers. It is necessary to get the students motivated at the beginning of the class. This includes activities that are short, communicative and fun like hangman, tongue twister, pictionary etc. There are also problems in dealing with large classes, students who are reluctant to participate, mixed levels in one class, the students using their first language and the use of listening texts. Some suggestions are given here to help cope deal with these problems. As teachers, we can be always be resourceful, adaptable and creative; making old things new, fresh and exciting to minimize these problems and have a successful class. I've learned a lot from this course and I think it would help me face problems that I might encounter sometime in my teaching career.
