Unit 3 starts with a brief history of previous teaching/lesson plan methods, then introduces ESA as the most effective method. ESA's constituent parts are then elaborated upon; 3 ESA lesson pathways are shown: straight arrow, boomerang, and patch work. There are an number of subject examples to engage students, some relatively obvious methods of the study phase, and then a long list of potential games and interactive exercises for various class sizes, age ranges, and proficiency levels. Teacher should all ways be very aware to select/design theres game with the parameters of the classes vocabulary and grammar knowledge. When and how the teacher corrects students is critical factor: ideally students should always be given the opportunity to retrospectively correct or at least realize their mistakes. Having piers help with correcting can also be beneficially to both students.
