Noticeably omitted here are vocabulary tests, as well as reading tests, both of which may be the most frequent types of tests in middle school/reading classes. I agree that tests are important, yet sometimes they can use up too much class time (in my opinion), so the teacher has to balance the benefits of using them. Some parents are test-focused, vs. learning-focused, perhaps due to societal constraints, and may want teachers to give a lot of tests (and to be able to rank their children within the classroom). I would like to see more emphasis placed on the \"idea\" of testing, as in the educational environment we often assume that tests are necessary and expected, yet in some cases (check Finland's educational progress) such an idea has proven to be false.
