Certain lessons may include grammar functions, new vocabulary or both. It all depends on the teacher?s curriculum; however, it is certain that a student needs knowledge of both. There is a general guideline when selecting vocabulary for certain lessons. There are endless words to choose from, which may cause a dilemma. However, the vocabulary to be introduced need to be appropriate to the given task, needs to be teachable depending on students? level and how likely the words will appear before the student. It is also important for the student to know what part of speech the vocabulary can be used as in a sentence, it?s meaning, and how to pronounce and spell the word. This also applies to grammatical structures, where students need to also understand the difference between spoken and written forms.
