This unit covers the organization/ structure of your lesson and how to keep the students engaged. It listed the different approaches one could use and gave practical examples for each stage. It also covers the best ways in which to correct students mistakes and when to correct them. I learnt the importance of making the sessions student based and not teacher based. That my engagement should be at a minimum and allow the students to express themselves, using whatever bits of the language that they know as much as possible. I also grasped the proper manner in which to correct students mistakes.Unit 12 on productive skills is definitely a more detailed lesson than the one on receptive skills. Its interesting to note that writing skills often get overlooked, put off, or relegated to homework. It is true, that this area is of super importance but not always taught well. Years ago I had to learn a new language in six months. It gave me a good foundation for understanding the language, reading it and getting a working vocabulary. Yet I still struggle with the writing skills. I hope that this unit along with my experience will continue to inspire me to not overlook this area as a teacher.
