There are many advantages to adding a computer aided or AV components to lessons but this does not eliminate the need for preparation and many times increases it. Utilizing electronic aids requires the teacher to not only understand the materials they are presenting and how to teach to them but also a firm comfort with the medium they are using to present. A lesson could easily be derailed if the chosen presentation medium stops working and a teacher does not have a back up plan. Similarly, if the teacher has only a passing understanding of computers or other electronics, their usage becomes risky. It behooves the teacher, then, to practice until perfect within their chosen format.
