This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 was on managing a classroom and how to appropriately use eye-contact, gesture, and voice. It stressed the importance of building a good rapport with the students and preventative measures to behavioral problems. It broke down the pros and cons of using class-groupings, pairs, and small groupings for activities. There was an encouraging of using a mix of groups to effectively allow students to participate. I felt that a lot of this lesson was similar to a communication course in that it asks a teacher to be a good communicator. For example, to make eye-contact, use gestures appropriately, and having visual aids. One of the things I took from this unit was that to clarify understanding have the students explain it back to you.
