Coursebooks can be useful for beginner teachers or to help teachers have a guide on how to structure the curriculum of the course. I think coursebooks can also be helpful for students as they would typically contain basic information (e.g. grammar patterns, etc) that would be necessary for the students to refer to for revision, and can help teachers save lesson preparation time so that they can use the time planning more meaningful activities (based on the needs of the class) rather than reproducing information that can readily found in the coursebook. However, teachers have to be aware not to be too dependent on the coursebook for activities, so that students do not get the impression that they can self-study by reading on their own because the teacher only follows what is in the coursebook.
