Unit 14 covers the issue of using course materials and books in the classroom and things to consider before and while using them with language learners. Some teachers prefer to use authentic material from the real world such as train schedules, pamphlets, magazines, menus, etc. while others prefer created material such as crossword puzzles, riddles, games, etc. There are good and bad to both types of material, and a healthy dose of both would be most effective. Unit 14 provides plenty of examples and sample materials that provide the prospective teacher with great ideas. This unit also talks about the pros and cons of using a course book and things to consider when doing so, while also stressing the importance of supplementing the course book with other materials as well.
