Unit 12 focuses on teaching productive skills, speaking and writing. For speaking, it is important to choose topics that will encourage student engagement. It is also crucial to decipher accuracy activities and fluency activities and teach accordingly. Writing requires more accuracy than speaking in terms of style, and its four major concerns are penmanship, spelling, punctuation, and creative writing.I learned from this section the importance of tenses when it come to forming sentences. This unit showed me that even native speakers of English can have trouble with these so in order to teach them to a non native speaker you must be able to fully grasp them yourself. I also learned that some non native speakers have trouble with contractions and to make sure these are fully understood by the student.
