This section was very helpful in showing how to teach reading and writing skills, and understanding the motivation and interests of the students. It reminded me to be considerate of all my students and their interests, not just one or two (or my own). It covered the kinds of reading (predictive, scanning, skimming, for full detail, and deduction) and knowing the kinds of material that would be appropriate for the students based on their skill levels. It also explained the importance of pre-teaching some vocabulary before a reading, but warned that it should be a balance because students do need to learn from context. And finally, it gave a good example of a lesson plan teaching receptive skills, so that I could use it to plan my own lessons in the future.
