In this unit I have learned about techniques teachers can use while introducing students to new vocabulary, grammar and function of the new language they are learning.I have learned about the criteria to teach new vocabulary and that students need to know the meaning, use, word grammar, spelling and pronunciation of new words. When teaching new grammatical structures, we need to make sure that students understand the meaning, use , forms and patterns, and differences between spoken and written forms. Teachers should focus their lessons on one of the areas : new grammar, vocabulary or the function ( inviting, refusing, agreeing, suggesting and whether to use formal/ informal language). The suggested approach for teaching grammar and vocabulary would be A Straight Arrow lesson plan, and for teaching the function of a language, the Boomerang structure would be most efficient.
