Lesson planning is good for the teacher because it allows him/her to have a vision of what/how/why a lesson needs to be done, but also recording and monitoring how classes went is good to help the teacher remember how past lessons went, what were the problems... This is especially true for beginner teachers who have not faced that many \"real\" classes. This planning can take many forms depending on the needs, experience... As much as planning lessons are important for both teachers and students it still needs to be flexible so that the teacher can easily adapt the lesson to the current situation (unexpected problem, students not being in the \"mood\" to learn that day or they enjoy one activity so much that the teacher decides to give more time...).
