This unit has helped define in general the various roles of a good teacher as well as the traits of a good learner. It has also shown the various levels of assessment of a student's English speaking ability in clear and concise terms.
While those terms offer a guide to assessing a student's linguistic ability, it is still up to the teacher to applly those guidelines at their own discretion.
Lines will start to blur when a student has advanced knowledge of jargon in their field of expertise but lacks the grammar and clear structure to convey that vocabulary effectively.
That has been my professional experience when teaching adults.
