Unit 16 dealt with teaching receptive skills in the classroom. The two forms of receptive skills are reading and listening. Both of these are equally important. When it comes to reading and listening, there are two different kinds. The first is reading/listening for a purpose and the second is for pleasure. And example of the first would be reading an encyclopedia entry to learn about birds. Doing it for pleasure could be listening to your favorite radio program. Depending on the material, it might be necessary to go over some vocabulary before having the students listen to or read a text. This will make it easier to understand what will follow. Overall this unit was helpful and be of use with my own class.
