This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 5 covered classroom management. It outlined the importance of grouping, discipline and the various types of seating plans. It also covered aspects such as giving instructions and writing on the board. From this unit I have learned that the it is important to balance both teacher talk and student talk time. Both have a necessary place in the classroom and it is important to get the balance right. Furthermore, I have also learned that for English language learners there are a varied of the methods of giving instructions based on the given situation. In addition to the seating plan selecting the most appropriate method for each of these is vital to having a classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Building rapport is also a vital part of this process. Without good rapport it can be difficult to manage a classroom effectively as students lack trust and understanding of the teacher.
