The lesson broke down the basics of course materials between authentic and created material. Each have a place in the teacher's repertoire to teach students but using them incorrectly can have adverse affects on students. For instance, giving a beginner a real newspaper article containing numerous vocabulary and grammar patterns unfamiliar to the student would likely cause the student to shut down and or lose confidence in their learning experience. The teacher must know when to use authentic versus created materials such as a course book, which has a variety of applications towards giving students a tailored learning experience.
