This unit explains how to teach pronunciation and phonology to English learners. Pronunciation lessons are often neglected by teachers of the English language, because lack of training or confidence. As long as teachers are trained well there are many ways to instruct English pronunciation for students. The unit covers intonation and stress. The proper usage of these two concepts can help students convey their thoughts and feelings in conversations. Then the unit takes on phonology, and goes into depth on English linguistics. There are even diagrams of the anatomy of a human mouth which the unit uses to explain how and why we make the sounds that we do. The unit breaks down the phonemic alphabet and shows how words are to be read, making it possible for all variations of English to be learned. The phonemic alphabet can be seen in the dictionary so that users can not only learn how a word is defined, but also learn how a word is pronounced. I learned so much with this unit. Before this study I did not know how to read the phonemic alphabet to be honest. As a natural English speaker it never occurred to me that I would need to know how to use the phonemic alphabet. After close study of the charts I now know how to read the phonemics inside of a dictionary. Also playing with stress and intonation actually made this unit fun to study. It made me realize how crazy of a language English really is. You can stress different words in a sentence and it completely changes the entire meaning of a statement.
