Unit 20 addressed common problems a teacher may face in class especially in a new class and how to deal with them. There are two main group of students you will encounter. They are the new group and the existing group of students. I understand that in the very first class it would be best to establish rapport, find out about students and their English ability instead of jumping straight into a lesson. That can be done in a number of ways. Some being questioners, needs analysis or a game. When dealing with a class of students with different level of English you need to tailor the lessons to suit all levels by using different materials or the same material with different tasks. Also when dealing with a large class a teacher should appoint group leaders, use worksheets and use choral repetition in order to get all students involved. As previously leant the students native language should be avoided. Let the student practice expressing him or herself in English.
