The unit I just completed focused on the past tenses family. I studied the four forms, which are : past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. Each one of these forms has obviously a distinct usage : while the simple form simply expresses a completed action at a specific point in the past, the continuous form is used to express an action that was STILL in progress at a specific point in time. The perfect form is used instead to relate two past actions to each other, while the last form (perfect continuous) still relates two actions in the past, one of which had been continuing up until another action.
