Unit 9 of the course deals with lesson planning. Being able to effectively plan a lesson includes having some sort of stability but should also be flexible so that changes could be made to suit the needs of the students. It is helpful for the teacher to write lesson plans because it serves as a record to keep track of progress, it is a working document that can be referred back to, and it is an aid to planning goals. While creating lesson plans they should be kept simple, structured well, open to adaptation, balanced, and there should be estimates of how long each portion of the lesson should take. The lesson plan should include the learner objectives, personal aims, teaching aids, language point, anticipated issues, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, class size, date, time, and the names the students and observers if the class is being monitored. One of the key components to effective lesson planning is being organized. A teacher should make sure they have their lesson plan before heading into work and they should check that they have all the necessary materials. It is also important to note that the seating arrangements are ready for when students arrive. The teacher should also greet and chat with students as they enter to make for a warm and welcoming atmosphere. This can help warm-up the students and prepare them for the lesson ahead.
