Unit 18 discussed modals, phrasal verbs, and passive voice. Modal verbs are verbs that are used to add meaning to other verbs, and are used to express things like obligation, ability, or advice. Phrasal verbs are multi-word verbs consisting of a verb and one or two particles that function as one. There are three main types of phrasals, intransitive, transitive separable, and transitive inseparable. The differences in the three is where the object pronoun is located in relation to the verb and particle. In passive voice, the 'doer' of an action is less important, or sometimes completely absent. When teaching, I believe I'll have the most difficulty explaining passive voice, as I still have troubles with it, myself. Luckily, activities such as splitting up active and passive sentences and having students match them are a fun way to give students experience in recognizing the differences in active and passive voice.
