Theorists suggest that lesson planning is not a good idea because it creates a more fixed teacher centered lesson. Too much planning too makes lessons rather rigid and stop the teacher being flexible to the needs of the learners. It is difficult for inexperienced teachers to be as flexible as this would require. Good teachers are expected to let students decide what to do in the class, however inexperienced teachers would find it difficult in conducting a lesson in such a way, because they wouldn?t be prepared to deal with some of the language problems that may arise from such a lesson. It should be noted that writing lesson plans has a number of important functions and these are an aid to planning, a working document, and a record. These are very important to the teacher and help him or her to stay organized during the lessons. Lesson plans should contain the learners objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems for the student and teachers, procedure, phase, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date and time plus the teacher and observer?s name.
