The unit covers various elements related to teaching the so-called productive skills, i.e. speaking and writing. It points out the communicative function of these skills as well as gives some ideas on how to stimulate students to make them active in the lesson. As for the speaking skill, the difference between accuracy and fluency activities is clearly laid out and illustrated with numerous examples which can be used when planning a lesson. The guidelines for a free/creative speaking activity with points to keep in mind before the lesson, during the activity and after the activity are in particular useful. As for the writing skill, some writing-specific factors are considered and presented, accompanied with an example of a relevant lesson structure.
