This unit provided a general overview of course materials and course books for the teacher. It was helpful to learn about authentic vs. created materials and how each one plays a different role in learning for English students. I also appreciated learning about the advantages and disadvantages of coursebooks, and how they can both benefit and hinder the learning experience. In understanding these intricacies, a teacher will have a better grasp on when and how to use the coursebook, and when and how to deviate from the coursebook to keep students engaged and excited to learn. Coursebooks can provide structure and a helpful guideline for a lesson, but to avoid students getting bored, it's important that teacher vary the lesson and supplement the coursebook with more unexpected and interesting class activities.
